Album Notes

"A rock n' roll Prairie Home Companion meets the Cohen Brothers in the Twilight Zone." That is one possible description of songwriter, Jan Stroup's 52 minute, mixed-media audio drama entitled, Lonna With The Radio On. He calls this unique format, CD Lit, because it's literary as well as musical, with characters, dialogue, symbolism, and a car radio that acts like a Greek Chorus. Adult issues are addressed in the story of Lonna and her attempt to deal with a challenging marital situation. Disc 1 is the drama, disc 2 contains eleven songs.
The eleven original rock, jazz, & soul tunes of Mr. Stroup each have different singers, so they can fit into the car radio background of Lonna's road trip. These are terrific singers and terrific songs that bare repeated listenings. Good choruses, catchy hooks, great solos and voodoo grooves.
Part of the fun is the CD packaging, which is made to look like a 60's pulp paperback. This double CD is a wonderfully executed concept album that could become a cult classic.
