Album Notes

This album was recorded between June and September of 2009 at Everything Burns Productions LLC in Birmingham, Alabama. Production by Jasper Coal. Mixing and mastering by Jeremy Burns.
The album features Matt Parish and the guitar and tin whistle. Matt also provides the majority of the vocals on the album. Likewise, Ian Hoppe carries the majority of the guitar work and sings tenor harmony on most of the tracks. Jeremy burns rocks the bass, banjo, bouzouki, and also provides weaving harmonies throughout. And finally Nathan Tucker lays down that sweet drum track on the Irish traditional drum, Bodhran, as well as backing vocals.
The majority of the tracks on 1000 Feet Closer to Hell are traditional tunes that have been passed down through the years as folk music. Jasper Coal has somehow struck a medium between conventional folk music and feral Celtic alternative that resonates well with the contemporary generation.
In late march of 2010, 1000 Feet Closer to Hell was reviewed by David Feltman of Skope Magazine in Boston, Mass. Here are a few excerpts:
