Jayne Kelly was born in the Bronx, NY and grew up in West Babylon, Long Island. She began studying piano at the age of eight, with her first teacher, Sonia Stein. After the death of Ms. Stein, she studied with Walter Multer from sixth grade through high school.
Jayne continued her studies with Frank Logha at the Crane School of Music, graduating in 1981 with a degree in music education. After college she lived in New Jersey and Massachusetts before settling in New Hampshire. It was there she met her mentor. a Lithuanian pianist named Yura. Yura as since passed away, but she remains very much alive in Ms. Kelly's playing.
Ms. Kelly's technical skill and expressiveness, along with her ability to find the inner voices in a wide variety of classical pieces, have won her many followers. She performs regularly throughout New Hampshire and New England, and she maintains a full roster of students as well.
"I have had the privilege of working with many great pianists in my long career. I was not prepared to be thrown 'back to the wall' by the powerful technique and interpretations of masterpieces that Jayne Kelly effortlessly performed during her sessions here. Most modern recordings are recorded over many days and edited to death. In contrast, Ms. Kelly sat at our Steinway and within two hours had performed, virtually flawlessly, an entire album's worth of monstrous works. Her passion bursts out of each and every piece that she performs. In my experience, she is one of a kind"
