Album Notes

By cross pollinating the sounds of Bjork’s "Big Time Sensuality", with Joan Baez’s "Blowing in the Wind", while dancing in a “Love Shack" with the B-52's, and then "Stepping Out" to DJ Kaskade, you get a better understanding of the influences that helped to produce the Jazz-elle vibe.

Having survived the heat and hardships of the Mojave, I can tell you desert living is no easy journey. Like a desert fox, I’ve sometimes lived under harsh self-imposed conditions. For basic survival, the lizards and coyotes became my best friends and I began to transform with them. The cover artwork for “Test Your Taste Buds” is a tribute to and for my lizard friends that inspire the spirit to move.

With the use of samples and sound files, I try to build waves of sound, an electro pop funk wave. I paint with sound, a canvas on which to drop funky vibes and spiritual rhythms... such as the first track on "Test Your Taste Buds", the hypnotic "Stricken".

My desert experiences resulted in inspiration for the 8h and 9th tracks, “Run For Your Life” and “The Cover Up”. These songs were born out of my commitment to stop the aerial spraying over California. (“You got your mojo, keep on your toes go, they’re behind you breaking rules making new laws,”) as it goes in part.

While singing amongst the snakes and lizards, I wrote the fourth track on "Test Your Taste Buds": “Don’t Doubt It.” I believed I would come out of the intense survival mode to a higher consciousness, resulting in my conclusion that, “You can do anything you set your mind to; it’s not just for the few.”

"Transcend" has evolved many transformations, just as the song itself promotes. The latest version on this album was remixed with the help of DJ Daris.

"Hey U" and "The X Spot" were rewritten several times. The amazing end result came from the awesome production help from Zi, aka Azi, from the House of StreetSongz Digital Recording and Duplication located in Santa Cruz, California www.myspace.com/azireggaesoldierz.

The closing song, "Frustrated", sums up 3 hard drive crashes, 2 evacuations from fires, and a whole lot of patience needed to birth: "Test Your Taste Buds".

I hope you will get your desert rocks off with the heavy bottom, and pulsating beats, sweet keyboard melodies, tripping E effects, an a touch of guitar. I will see you on the dance floor! Jazz-elle

I really enjoyed this release from up and coming techno artist Jazz-Elle, especially 'Touch Me', which has a sexy sultry pulse and some very sensual lyrics. Perfect for chilling out with the lights low. I also liked 'Frustrated' although it's very different than 'Touch Me'. I think the diversity of this disc is what makes it so great. Check it out!!!
