A star is born

I've looked forward to this CD for a long time, having had the privilege of hearing Jeanette d'Armand in recital. As a stage singer she has remarkable presence and an uncanny talent for delivery. I remember hearing Stacey Kent before she became famous, and feeling something similar (she has since soared into a successful career with four albums and counting). However, in the case of Jeannette another dimension is added. Stacey's voice is sensuous and vibrant, and she gives a deliciously jazzy feel to golden oldies, resulting into an unmistakable overall style that seduced me. Jeannette, on the other hand, inserts herself into each song and reinvents herself every time. More facets, more dimensions.. ultimately, more jazz. Don't miss her in concert, and don't be without her CD's.

Tasty, tasty music

I am a big fan of jazz (real jazz, not "smooth jazz") and I am a big fan of good vocals. Often an artist will come out with a CD that sounds like hundreds of CDs before it. Stage Road is a huge, beautiful exception to this case. Here is a collection of 13 songs that are masterfully arranged and exquisitely performed. Standbys like 'Melancholy Serenade' and 'Small Day Tomorrow' get new, fresh treatments. 'Moonfall' (a surprisingly gorgeous song by Rupert Holmes) shines in this sweeping, haunting new version. The back-up vocals are pristine and pure, the insturmentalists are excellent, and above all, Ms. D'armand's vocals soar, glitter and growl in all the right places. This is a CD I am going to be listening to for years to come.
