Album Notes

Hey Baby

I don't know what you're thinkin' about when you're lookin' at me
But when I look at you, pretty baby, it makes me want to dream

Hey baby, you know it's alright
Hey baby, it's just me and you tonight

I don't know what I ever would do if you ever were gone
Think I'd prob'ly go crazy if you left me all alone

Hey baby, you know it's alright
Hey baby, it's just you and me tonight

There's no one else around tonight - it's just me and you
There's so much I want to say, and there's somethin' I want to do
So I picked you those flowers in the vase there by the sink
Bought you your favorite wine - come on and let's have a drink

Hey baby, you know it's alright
Hey baby, it's just you and me tonight

Good Man Gone

When I was a child, I used to ride out on that tractor and Granpa'd put me on his knee

We'd plow that field and we'd plant that corn - much more than our family could eat

People'd come from miles around just to get themselves some food - I still con't think of a better thing to do

Than to be out there with Granpa workin' that dirt - feedin' our friends and neighbors too

He was a good man, and he's gone

Well I learned a thing or two about hard work in that field like quittin' time comes when the job is done

Granpa had his hand in bringin' me up right, and I'm proud to be that good man's grandson

He was a good man, and he's gone

But I believe a good man lives on

Muscadines

Out in the woods
Where the wind don't blow
And nobody ever goes

There hang
The sweetest muscadines
That ever were to grow

Mama
Used to take us there
Back so long ago

We went out there
Each and every year
Until she got too old

I remember
That sweet smell
Floating through the vines

I always meant
To get back there
And I do believe it's time

Bring a basket
Won't you, son
I'll show you where to go

To find
The sweetest muscadines
That ever were to grow

Song of the Determined Dreamer

I might seem lazy
I might spend too many mornin's lyin' in bed

But it gets hard to work with these ol' dreams all in my head

Late at night I'm drinkin'
An' keepin' an eye on the wind

Listenin' hard for that thunder
Rollin' through them hills again

I 'bout decided I ain't fit for nothin'
But bein' just what I am
An' I got to thinkin' if you don't like that
Well,
Maybe I don't give a damn

It might seem strange
But I got this growlin' in my gut

An' open doors in my mind
That I just can't keep shut

It might seem crazy
But I think I just might put it all on the line

I just might go for broke
I just might make a break while I got the time

I 'bout decided I ain't fit for nothin'
But bein' just what I am
An' I got to thinknin' if you don't like that
Well,
Maybe I don't give a damn

It's hard to think
When I'm always yellin' in my own ear

An' it's hard to move ahead
While holdin' back an' pretendin' I don't hear

It might seem strange
But I got this growlin' in my gut

I got open doors in my mind
That I just can't keep shut

I bout decided I ain't fit for nothin'
But bein' just what I am
An' I got to thinkin' if you don't like that
Well,
Maybe I don't give a damn

Mountain Sun

Once in awhile
I got to get out in the mountains
Find me a cool runnin' stream

Put my feet
right down in the flow
Lay on a rock and dream

Then sometimes
I get up on a ridge
Walk 'til my feet get sore

'TIl whatever's
Been worryin' me
Ain't worryin' me no more

When it gets too much
I gotta run
Gotta spend some time
Out underneath that mountain sun

Well, sometimes
I get all caught up
In makin' money and payin' debts

It's enough
To make a man crazy
Enough to make him almost forget

But if I ever
Think too long
About' keepin' up with Mr. Jones

I set my mind
On the weekend ahead
And when it comes that's when I'm gone

When it gets too much
I gotta run
Gotta spend some time out Underneath that mountain sun

When I die
Just remember that
I spent my best time out there

And there was
A certain understanding
Me and those mountains shared

When it gets too much
I gotta run

Tomorrow I'm Goin' Home

Tomorrow I'm goin' home
Back to where I'm from
And I may not see you, girl
If I ever return

There ain't nothin' about this place
That's ever been good to me
Spent my time workin' so hard
Now I'll find my peace

Tomorrow I'm goin' home
Back to where I'm from
And I may not see you, girl
If I ever return

It ain't like you care for me
Not like you say you do
It's only when you're alone that you're cryin'
And you can always find somebody new

Tomorrow I'm goin' home
Back to where I'm from
And I may not see you, girl
If I ever return
And I may not see you, girl
If I ever return
