HEMI HEAD
author: Paul Liberatore (Marin Independent Journal/ Entertainment
Marin guitar ace John Rewind, one of the founding members of the Hoodoo Rhythm Devils, a Bay Area band that backed up the Pointer Sisters, comes roaring out of Mill Valley with a CD of pedal-to-the-metal instrument rock.
Rewind, who's played on records by Ike Turner and Steve Miller and has had songs recorded by Johnny Winter and the Chambers Brothers, laid down these 10 tracks of screaming blues-rock guitar at his Rear Window studio in Mill Valley, where such noted Marin rockers as Doobie Brother Tom Johnston and Gamma singer Davey Pattison have recorded demos.
Rewind has produced bands like the Dynatones, the Beautiful Losers
and Bobby Black, and he's a master in the control room, which shows in the crisp clean sound of "Hemi Head."
As a player, he's equally adept at straight-ahead rockers like the track "American Idle" as well as sweet ballads such as "Blue Margarita." The man's a master.
For guitar players, this CD is like going to school. And for lovers of unadulterated rock guitar, look no further than "Hemi Head."
