Steve Metzger, songwriter and band leader says…

"Junkwelder" (Sometimes "Junkwelder Project" ) is an all purpose name for whoever is in the band for each performance. I weld junk sculpture so I call the band "Junkwelder". I know so many talented musicians and it's fun to jam with different configurations. Each incarnation creates a different overall sound. I suppose it's like Zappa or Captain Beefheart more than the traditional "band". Every venue presents me with the decision of what I hope the configuration sounds like, and is limited by who wants to do it. All of the musicians that I work with are professionals in their own right and have stuff going on of their own.

On Steve…

I mostly write music and play for events, and concerts ( I've opened
for The Outlaws at the Coach House, Crystal Gayle at the spectrum in Irvine,
and other major bands and singers at various clubs in the LA area, most
recently, Collin Raye at the Crazy Horse in West Covina).

I teach art classes at Fullerton College and at the Fashion Institute in
Irvine, and continue to paint, exhibit my art, write songs, and play
occasionally. I suppose I still dream of being famous. I think I'd rather be
a one-hit-wonder now than then because it's better to have something to look
forward to than look back at, but mostly, it's still just great to write the
next song...just to be in that moment. There's an energy of excitement when
I perform a new song for the band and even more when we play it for an
audience.

Conclusion

There have been moments when the band was playing and the crowd was into
what we were doing that were truly amazing. Like one musician I worked with
once said, we were "seeing (tour) buses", success was right around the
corner. It's great when you're playing a professional venue with a great
sound system and lighting, and the crowd loves it. Then you load up your
gear, get in your car and drive home. oh well...
