Album Notes

Karakoram is an instrumental project led by guitarist Andy Hagiioannu, whose debut album' Far and Wide' received reviews including:

'I suspect that I will not hear as satisfying a collection of guitar music this year...' -- C.MICHAEL BAILEY, ALL ABOUT JAZZ, 24/6/07.

'... has a capivating sound [that] builds on tradition but ventures into its own territory. It's a route the listener will appreciate.' -- ERIC ELIAS, JUST JAZZ GUITAR MAGAZINE, August issue, 07

'One of the treats of the album are the half dozen solo cuts: the little winks and whispers that are Hagiioannu’s solo cameos. Tunes [that] bask in the warmth of a lazy afternoon. At only one minute, twenty-nine seconds, Newborn leaves a baby-powder scent of fingerpicking guitar that lasts long after the fade out. The veiled Hidden Road meanders gently down a path less traveled. Put this on with two fingers of neat Scotch at sunset, and call me in the morning.' -- RANDY WALDEN, MUSIC-REVIEWER.COM, 07/07:

'Hagiioannu is also set apart by finger-picking, which he incorporates into the... trio format, and also on several lyrical unaccompanied pieces ("Newborn"). In fact, the guitar-only numbers may be even better than the trio cuts...' -- DAVID BERTRAND WILSON, WILSON AND ALROYD RECORD REVIEWS, 26/4/07:

A beautifully written album

When I first listened to this album my ears were instantly attracted to these amazing acoustic and rhythmic sounds.. Karakoram's music is wonderfully written, inviting you to think of Cornwall and all it's beauty. You can tell that this album has had a lot of love and care go into it to produce such lovely music to tempt your ears so much to listen. Track 1 grabs your attention immediately with its melodies dancing to your ears. Track 7 is a very relaxing piece of music, whilst track 10 has a very warm sound. I would fully recommed this album, its a pleasure to listen to and I can't wait for the next one.
