Album Notes

About Thesia:
There's always been the music. From South Louisiana, via Texas, to Connecticut -- the musical story has been on a journey with me. Thesia is short for synesthesia -- when sound, color, taste, vision, thought is all mixed together in experiencing life. Blurring the edges of my personal experiences with this concept in mind, I let the music speak where spoken words are silent.

About me:
I was born screaming and the doctor commented that I had good lungs.

I still do.

A soundtrack has always run in the background of my head, and writing it down, recording it, performing it — it helps to clear the space for new ideas and creation.

We are all citizens in music’s world. I revel in the fact that the tone, the core and structure of my music, can be translanted into any language or non-language via the intent of sound.

As a pianist, vocalist, and composer, I try to incorporate my love of melodic line with my fascination with the piano’s ability to function as my percussion section, my orchestra, and my string section. When I blend the piano’s function with my voice…becoming one with my instrument… I feel most powerful in my writing and performing.

My songs reflect my Louisiana heritage, and my love of jazz and blues. I also feel some of my songs reflect my love and knowledge of Broadway literature and the golden age big-band and standards that shaped my musical heritage. I also credit singer-songwriters from the sixties and seventies in shaping my writing style.
