Kehv, dubbed the Prince of Reggae Soul, stands tall with the release of his official debut album entitled “Simply KEHV.” Released on label Impressionist Music, this debut highlights the different styles of Kehv and displays the naked truth of his versatile vocal ability. Born in the Parish of St. Ann, Jamaica, Kehv is strongly influenced by reggae, but also has a love for R&B. He proclaims his form of artistry as being a blending of the two with an infusion of hip-hop; producing the sound, he and his team call “Reggae Soul.”
The album kicks off with the melodic journey of “Caribbean Sol-Jah”; an introductory groove that may make you wonder if the artist singing is a blood descendent of the original king of reggae Bob Marley. The track borrows from The Wailers original “Soul Rebel,” released in 1970, but modernizes it with today’s new reggae sound reminiscent of Damian and Kymani Marley.
Songs, “Hear U Say” and “Distant Lover”, feature Kehv’s vocals in a familiar lovers rock groove in the tradition of Beres Hammond meets Tony Rebel. These tracks are sure to put you in a mood for romance and love making. Turning up the heat even more, Kehv demonstrates his versatility with soulful R&B cuts “Real Love” and “Love Will Find a Way.”
In the trend of recent roots reggae, Kehv joins the ranks of newer greats like Jah Cure, Chuck Fender and I-Wayne with the tracks “War & Violence,” “Fly Away,” and “Believer.” These tunes carry strong roots rock traditions with a modern style of musical reggae meditation. “R.A.S.T.A Nah Bow” (Righteous Apostle Serving The Almighty) pushes the disk to a full spirit of conscious roots, representing this generation’s cry for justice, with Jah as the anchor. “Conscious Farmer” and “I’ll Keep Trying” continue this vibe while further implementing Kehv’s proclaimed blend of musical genres.
For all music lovers, this CD has all the ingredients to satisfy completely. Roots rockas will fill up with conscious rhythms, reggae heads will groove, and those who simply love a great vibe will quickly catch the two and four downbeats. “Simply KEHV” does not disappoint.
