Album Notes

Kip Anderson is one of Soul Music’s greatest performers from the golden era. Anderson, a South Carolina native, began singing at an early age and by the time he was attending South Carolina State University in 1959, he had recorded his tune and had it pressed and released on the famous Vee Jay label out of Chicago, Il. His partnering relationship with local radio personality, Charles Derrick, proved most fruitful as the two turned out a long string of strong original recordings, many of them incorporating the incredible studio talents of fellow South Carolinian, Moses Dillard. Besides the initial release on Vee Jay, Anderson’s tunes found there way on to a number of other significant labels of the time, including Excello, Chess, ABC and Fire-Fury. This package, aptly named after the famous line from Anderson’s song “You’ll lose a Good Thing”, includes a superb sampling of the performer’s greatest recordings, including rare alternate extended stereo versions of “Letter From My Darling” and the previously mentioned “Good Thing”, which provide a great over-view of the artist’s 60’s output. Anderson enjoyed a strong world wide following among soul purists and maintained an extensive overseas traveling schedule until his death in 2007.
