A long time ago in a galaxy far away there was a princess Leia. In the present, a new princess emerges. Laya Fisher's songs are a hook-laden, techno-pop treat. And read the lyrics. No fluff here. Deep, edgy, sexy, erotic. May the force be with Laya Fisher

Album Notes

Having already won the 2001 Billboard Songwriting Contest and written and performed the title track in the Angelina Jolie movie, "Hell's Kitchen," Laya's debut EP just confirms this rock chick has what it takes to make it to the top. Check out www.layafisher.com/bio for the full story...

In the meantime, here are some reviews:

"Folks, this lady's voice is ON FIRE. The sex appeal being projected through my headphones may be illegal in some countries. Somehow she combines a snarling eroticism with a smooth buttery crooning sophistication. I adore her vocal harmony. I adore her voice. I want to hear more. Her lyrics are easily the equal of her voice as well. These are PERFECT alt-pop lyrics folks, the mark of true genius. Overall, I am completely taken aback by Laya Fisher. She is one blazingly bright star. Folks, you need to go to her site and listen to her music, RIGHT NOW."

"Can you make "pure" techno-pop? If so, this American working in Australia has pulled it off. Together with a story line in STEPMOTHER SONG that ought to appeal to the 50 percent of America's kids who are the products of marriages that end in divorce.. Fisher has an affectingly shrill upper register that rides the beat and offsets the almost growled (a la Alannis) lines describing the wretch who is her dad's second spouse and why it pisses her off to be abandoned by a hypocrite: "I thought I was here first." Inspirational verse: "Cinderella she gets left behind / Am I in the way?" - that's an admirably high level of lyrical cattiness, enough to make me hope I hear her EP.

"I gotta admit, this is not a style of music you would normally hear me crooning the wondrous praises of, but consider me a Born Again "Fisher" of Men. "Scarlet" is just a truly good tune with an electronic rhythm section, some acoustic strumming, and the haphazardly placed bizarre little noise (Remember Republica? This blows them right out of the Sea of Tranquility). To be fair, I actually checked out her equally rocking track "Stepmother Song" when she submitted it for review earlier this year. I was very impressed. But those feelings aside, this song is stand alone, just as impressive in the ocean of post-alternative female fronted pop that torments my soul with its lifeless howls. This is an Island of Hope, ladies and Germans: a Bastion of Vitality." -Gods of Music

Wonderful!
author: Elizabeth B.
I first heard Laya on choiceradio.com. They played "Scarlet" and I was hooked from the first time it hit my ears. She reminded me of one of my favorite artists, Leah Andreone. I had to find out more about her, so I searched for her on Google and found this CD here and bought it right away. The only con of this CD is there aren't enough songs on it! The ones that are here are amazing lyrically, incredibly catchy and overall unique. It's definitely worth the $10. I hope Laya puts out something new soon!

Plastic Vox Techno-Groove : RadioWIRED.com Pick for 2001
author: Seanrox@radiowired.com
Powerfully remarkable! Drawn-in and suffocated by Laya's "plastic" vox harmony, funk/techno-groove, and sharply produced percussions tracks with Queen-esque reverse cymbals... *breath* ...her music builds that perfectly uncomfortable tension. Memorable lyrically and rhythmically, Laya Fisher is my official pick for 2001. -- seanrox@radiowired.com

Great use of loops and unique lyrics
author: Chaz
I enjoyed this song very much. I use one of these loops in a song I wrote called Native Ambience. Your use of it was very creative. I've heard many gay artists online, and I must say that you are the best yet!
