Album Notes

This band held a weekly gig for the better part of a year at a restaurant that allowed them more freedom than most restaurants would. The exploration that occurred during that gig is the closest thing to a rehearsal that was ever attempted. The individual members had played with each other in various groups over the years, but the trio, they felt, was somehow better than its parts. The music seemed to pretty consistently go in surprising directions and end up in exciting places. Going into the studio they took the same approach as the gig: no rehearsal, no discussion; just play and see where they could take the music as a group. They hadn't played together in more than a month. Ron was late (which is very unlike him). All tunes on this CD were first takes at the session. Gerald's tune, written a few days before the session, was recorded on the first read through.
