Matt is a London based British songwriter and musician who has been writing and recording professionally for many years. He loves beautiful jazz harmony and songs that make you feel good about life. Songs Sung is his 6th LP. His previous 5 albums were instrumental but this time around Matt has returned to writing lyrics.
"When you just want to convey an emotional idea, music is the quickest and most direct way to communicate. Unless I have something specific to say, words aren't required. For this album I had stuff in my personal life I was angry about or thankful for, and I wanted to express it. Sometimes a verse or two is all you need, so some of the lyrics are short. Just sing it and then get out.
Most lyrics on Songs Sung have obvious interpretations, but Time Is Spent is more impressionistic, which I like. There are two songs each about politics, nostalgia and death. Usual easy listening stuff then!"

music for grown ups

Thank God for Mr Ottewill. If all the older musicians and writers give in to the faddish youth culture fetish - then future generations will have nothing at all to listen to from this era. Some real qualtity tracks here. My personal favoutites the beautiful and profound Rhetoric of the jet and the eighties swing out sister hit single Cleared for song. But it is all high quality with excellent production and orchestration

Long, cool, chilled out jazz funk! Recommended!
author: Ben Henderson
Matt O has created an album here that pushes his music forward in a new direction - his singing is quirky, soullish and funky - I particularly like the slower tracks like "If you remember me" - it has a dreamy, summery feel about it. If you like your jazz easy and laid back, then this album is for you. Cool playing throughout - lovely guitar playing, tight drumming and just bags of feel! Buy this album and it will be your friend throughout the long summers...
