Biography

A wanderer and renaissance woman, Megan Callahan has played with Mary Ramsey of "John and Mary" and "10,000 Maniacs,"Jeremy Wall of "Spyro Gyra," and many talented musical artists, such as Scott Celani, Rob Falgiano, Michael DiSanto, Dave Conway, Tim Baldwin, Scott Nestler, Noa Bursie and Bobby Kane.

Megan can front a several piece jam band, or play a solo act that engages and excites audiences. Her songs are stories of loss, triumph and wandering. She plays with nuance and dynamics and a deep reverence and understanding of music's transcendent power.

She has been writing songs since she was a child, but started seriously writing music in her early teens. She has played many instruments over the years, and currently plays guitar, piano, clarinet and accordion. Her initial guitar training was in both folk and classical, as well as some jazz guitar, which led to her hybrid style that is influenced by everyone from Nina Simone to Ani Difranco to Buffy Sainte-Marie, Joni Mitchell, and Jeff Buckley.

Her first independently produced full length album, "Since the Fire" is now available. "Since the Fire" features Megan Callahan on guitar and vocals, Avi Altman on cajon, Jesse Buchner on bass, Martin Safford-Cameron on violin and Scott Nestler on lead guitar. The album was recorded, mixed and mastered at Wasteland Studio, Buffalo, NY. She went on tour through Ireland, England, Scotland and France just after its release and is excited for the year ahead. This is her first recording since 2002, when she released "Studio Sessions."She already has plans for her next two projects and looks forward to upcoming collaborations, including an electro-acoustic album.

Formerly a member of the duo "Voxangelica," Megan continues to search for ways to combine her two passions of music and theater. She also has a masters degree in Theater, and has studied at the Globe Theatre in England, as well as the Moscow Art Theater (Moscow) and with the Michael Chekhov Association. She has composed music for several stage productions, and has also done music direction for several plays, and she is looking forward to doing more work along these lines, as well as working in the film medium.

Soul-touching music

I have just begun to listen to jazz and blues type music. I have been told as one matures, their taste in wine becomes more refined. I think this applies to music as well, as I mature, I am finding the classic rock is getting old and the new rock is unappealing to me. Megan's lyric are relatable. Her voice is perfect for the music. You feel it deep in your soul. Megan's CD Since the Fire has a well-balanced mix of instruments and vocals that are sure to attract listeners who will keep coming back for more.
