" Take One" is Megan Gebert's first "Take" on jazz . Although classically trained, she grew up listening to and loving such artists as Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong, and recently decided to try her hand at the art form. All that listening seems to have paid off. With a rich mezzo-soprano voice, extensive range and impeccable pitch, she brings a nose for phrasing, incredible instincts and an understanding of the lyric not often found in someone so young, and has grabbed the attention of the jazz world in short order.
She brings to this, her first CD, a broad selection of standards, mixed with a few you may not have heard for awhile. She is backed by a trio of great players with an unusual sensitivity for accompaning singers. World-class jazz pianist Todd Hildreth, drummer Mike Hyman and double bassist Paul Davis give creative readings to the arrangements and give the entire range of selections a cohesive, yet swinging feel.
Sit back, relax and listen to the song stylings of Megan Gebert, and remember her name. There'll be plenty more "takes" on down the road.
