Her Heart In Her Voice
author: Steve Morton
"Seasons" by Melissa Trinchere is the showcase of an extremely talented young singer-songwriter. Her lyrics, concerning life and relationships, are charged with emotion. They paint pictures of loneliness and longing. Sometimes playful, sometimes plaintive- but always on the mark. Musically, she sets the mood with minimal instrumentation. Usually a piano and one other instrument arranged in a sparse, ethereal style. However, it's her voice that carries the day. This point is highlighted in the a capella "Tell Me Why", a powerful lament where melissa's voice moans, soars and almost screams. This is followed by the perfect choice for her first music video from this album, "Cold Feet" (check it out on YT- it's great!). A 'full band' slow-grinder that had my head rocking from beat one. There are other standouts- "Slow and Broken" (with some killer Eno-esque guitar bracings), "Sligo Town", "Christmas on the Emerald Isle", "Dark November"... Obviously, you'll have your own favourites. But rest assured- if you like deeply emotional music and intelligent lyrics in plain English by an amazing voice, you will thoroughly love this album!
