Album Notes

Yet another early example of Mike Johnson's talented song crafting, this touching ballad paints an emotional picture of coming home and letting go, that many baby-boomers can relate to. Written in February 1983, it was finally recorded in 1986 at Jim [Rich-R-tone Records] Stanton's Champ Recording Studio in Nashville Tennessee. A subtle favorite among many, the song was released on Johnson's first cassette album, an acoustic production titled "Mike Johnson's Guitar Songs Vol.1"#MAJ001, under the MAJJ Productions literary banner. This release was in response to a fan demand for more following the release of his 1981 45rpm single, "King of the Fish/Please Don't Squeeze the Charmin."

He finally decided to give the song a full studio treatment and released it on his second cassettee album, "I Believe In Roy Rogers" #C118601, also in 1986, under the Pata del Lobo Music Publishing banner. When Roughshod Records was created in June 1987, the song reappeared on a revised cassette album version, and would not appear again until 2004 in the #2 slot on the 17th Anniversary Edition of "Did You Hug Your Mother Today?" CD #RCD15-S0104-1.

Mike ahs always had a particular fondness for ballads. However, he's been somewhat reluctant to perform them because their lengths tend to "turn people off." Particulary if they can't tell a simple, relatable story.
"Ballads are for people who actually have time to listen," Mike once said.
I agree, and this one is definitely worthy of a good listen.
