Mister Joe is a member of the faculty at Texas Woman's University in Denton, where he teaches courses in music therapy. His compositional output also includes hymns, sacred songs, pieces for band, orchestra, and chorus. Since 2000 he has received an annual ASCAP-PLUS award for his work.
Most of the songs are self-explanatory, but a few may need some background information: (2) North of Ordinary makes fun of the new slogan for the City of Denton. We are home to Peterbuilt Trucks. We have Acme Brick that owns the world's largest brick. The University of North Texas has the largest school of music in the USA. Having one's name displayed on one of Frenchy's trucks is a mark of local honor. (6) Toot 'N' Tell is based upon an internet joke about a drive-through confessional. (10) Beer Can Song is based upon a true story from the local newspaper that is more bizarre than a Hollywood script.
Mister Joe performs most of the time in Denton, but he has also made appearances in New York City, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Austin, and Nashville.
