Nehemiah Sounds was formed in the fall of 2008 by Ras Russell, Spanna Dread and Shaka P. Nehemiah Sounds’ aim is to excite, innovate, educate and to spread love through music to the world. Ras Russell describes this as “Love Culture”. Ras Russell is the son of reggae legend Devon Russell, and an accomplished poet, producer and composer. “…music and the arts have always been my love…” Whether he is composing music for the BBC or delivering arts workshops or performing in performance poetry events across the UK, Ras Russell aspires to the same high standards as his father.
Spanna Dread has a spiritual way of connecting with the rhythms. The care he has for this local community and the youth of the London NW10 district is unquestionable. The topics he addresses are real and somewhat autobiographical. His influences are roots reggae music from the 70’s and 80’s, such as Bob Marley and, Dennis Brown. Spanna Dread continues to develop his distinctive talent.
Shaka P, the Dub Master builds the most inspiring rhythms tracks. “… I wake up in the mornings and just build the rhythms I am given…” From the days of sound systems like Sir Coxson, Java and many more, Shaka P has schooled himself building and playing sound systems. His connection in Nehemiah Sounds has enhanced his natural gift.
