Album Notes

The first time I actually met Opie Hendrix, I was hosting “Big G’s Texas Roadshow” on the old Revolution FM, emanating from KRVL in Kerrville, and simulcast on KOOK in Junction and KYXX in Ozona, TX. Doing an overnight show, covering about 250 miles of I-10 west of San Antonio, plus the web stream, we had a pretty magical format for a while.

Opie and I had become “friends” on MySpace. I saw that he was from Houston, and he was persistent! Although a neophyte to radio, but a lifelong audiophile, I heard and saw something that struck a chord with me.

So I agreed to have Opie in for a “live” performance and interview. I’ll never forget that night! Looking back, I guess his swagger and self-confidence initially made me like this guy. Nothing like a guy who believes in his product. They make the “best” salesmen.

Opie proved something to me that early morning. Great music and great musicians cannot be categorized. I would rather spend time and promote someone who has passion about his craft. And let me just say Opie Hendrix is one of the most passionate musicians I’ve ever met. He fully believes he needs to be heard, as do his legions of fans. I find myself in that category…..

Camino Alto is Opie’s latest offering, and arguably, his best. It is a wonderful feeling for someone in my job to see an artist mature, take the bull by the horns, and keep plugging onward. I truly consider this man a friend, real…not virtual. Congratulations Opie, keeping kicking butt and making great music, and NEVER lose your passion for your craft. Best of luck with this new one, and always know I will always play your stuff.

And for all you long time Opie Hendrix fans out there, and all of you new ones, never forget “Jesus Loves You, and So Does Opie Hendrix.”
