ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"A Buddha State of Mind" takes the listener on a journey that explores a range of human emotion and is genre-defying. The CD starts with its title track, a song with a wry sense of humor, and ends with the artsy rock song, "Original Sin." Along the way, the listener meets songs reflecting imperfect love and stories of powerful, soulful and sometimes funny observation. The CD is bound by the lead vocals, strong songcraft, melodies that stick and first rate musicians. As an internet radio fan put it: “ An enigmatic, original voice with great feeling, this artist's best work is ahead of her. I hope she can find a place in an empty souless music industry of today. A female Leonard Cohen? I think so and I mean that as a compliment.”

outstanding
In this age of one-hit wonders, rarely do you come across an album that is truly outstanding from beginning to end. 'Buddha' is one of these rarities - a truly inspiring work of art. As a reviewer below has pointed out, every time you think you have put Paula's character into a box, she completely surprises you with the next song. She can do it all, from the slow ballads to the soul to the blues. Musicians are first-class, every instrumental part is well chosen and placed. A truly wonderful album.

This CD really shows songwriting at its best...its got an analog vibe...very real...strong emotional content.

Paula's music
Ah, each time you think you've got Paula's music pegged it fluidly morphs into something else. I like this work, and while it's original and confident---it never ties to be anything. It just is.

a buddha...
Truly a gem of an album; wonderfully crafted songs comprised of moving lyrics, soulful melodies, and beautiful instrumentation. Seldom does an album invoke such a wildly deep emotional response; A Buddha State of Mind is one of those rarities: a soulful journey which, at less than 80 minutes in length, ultimately expands far beyond the reaches of time and space.
