Phil Maher's self-titled release imagines some remote intersection of jazz, rock, and electronica, and his various talents as a performer, composer, arranger, and producer inform this highly eclectic set of music in equal parts.
After spending most of the 2000's studying jazz and performing on the saxophone in New York, he crafted this album over the course of two years in relative seclusion while studying composition and computer music in Montana. The 1/1/10 release date is symbolic of the artist's desire for the lagging stylistic evolution of popular music to catch up with the past decade's vast technological advances, and his hopes that his unique work will make some contribution to that end.
