Album Notes

Redce: Origins
On December 20th, 2007, the Freiburg, Germany-based ensemble SurPlus, directed by James Avery, presented a concert in its hometown highlighting works by Ecuadorian composers. Both the concert and the resulting CD (Contemporáneos, SurPlus", Colección Sumak, Música Académica Ecuatoriana del Siglo XX, Casa de la Cultura Ecuatoriana, Núcleo del Azuay, Febrero, 2008) were “virtually” organized through the Internet and served as a starting point for the activities of Redce - a “virtual” net of Ecuadorian composers.
The founders of Redce include Juan Campoverde (USA), Milton Estevez (USA), Eduardo Flores Abad, (Germany) Mesías Maiguashca (Germany), Arturo Rodas (UK) and Luis Enríquez (Ecuador). These initial members were soon joined by other Ecuadorian composers, some living in Ecuador and others living abroad.
The aim of Redce is to participate in, and contribute to, the cultural life of Ecuador by writing music for its performers, orchestras, and audiences. Redce is working to promote Ecuadorian music, especially contemporary music, by increasing awareness and motivating interest about it. However, this cannot be done without the collaboration of Ecuador’s cultural and educational institutions. We hope this situation will soon change for the better. This CD is testament to the aspirations and determination of Redce.
