Randin Graves signed on to provide cinematic music on a tight budget for the debut of director Chris Adler and the ReCinema production group. The score was done mostly with high end orchestral samples, plus tracking of a live percussionist (Brad Ranola), vocals (Taylor Fassler) on one track and violin and baritone violin throughout the score (Aaron Ashton).
Adler asked for a simple theme for the lead character of Annie (Courtney Baxter) that can appear in different arrangements as she moves through fear, doubt, anger and reconciliation. A simple two chord motif that appears in major and minor versions runs throughout the score, at the beginning and end accompanied by a plaintiff melody suggesting sweetness with just a touch of tension. A recurring celesta denotes moments of recognition of "home" and "mother" symbolized in the film by a teddy bear.
