Album Notes

"Ras Abijah vs the Beast" is a glorious and wonderful find in the landscape of music and it's history. Not too many stories still exists regarding a first in music, but here, this album is not only a great album, it is a first; the first full length reggae album from the Virgin Islands released on Truckerman Records.

Ras Abijah Hicks, acclaimed guitarist from St. Thomas and most recent for his stint propelling the sounds of the Midnite Band, recorded this album in 1979 with his band during the heyday of Bob Marley and the Wailers. "Ras Abijah vs the Beast," at that time released on vinyl, captures the spirit of the times with beautiful guitar licks and musical compositions that sets grooves infused with Soul, R&B, Disco and even a Santanaesque track that roots fans and musicians alike will truly appreciate. Never straying from it's purpose, the music is through and through reggae at it's best.

Re-released here digitally for the first time, "Ras Abijah vs the Beast" is a Collector's item and must have for reggae fans and archivists the world over.

Ras Abijah continues to produce, record and perform live and is still relevant to this day. His most recent album will be released Summer 2010.
