Rebecca Sorensen is a singer/songwriter with a calling to bring the lost children home to their Heavenly Father. She carries a burden particularly for the orphaned children of Africa who are completely alone and in desperate need of hope, a Savior, and a Father. Rebecca hopes her music ministry will inspire a movement of compassion among the western church to take up the call to care for the orphan, the widow, and those in need.
She is not just talking or singing about Christ, but has a passion to truly be His hands and feet. Along with a team of Ugandan friends and by God’s miraculous grace and provision, Rebecca built and opened a school for orphaned and war-affected children in the heart of a slum area of Kampala, Uganda. Royal Hope Academy opened in February of 2009 with a small group of children and only three teachers. It has quickly grown to include over 150 children, 8 teachers, and 4 staff members! The need for homes for these children was evident as several of them were going door to door every night in need of shelter. A small children’s home close to the school was opened in July of 2009. Rebecca founded the organization My Father’s House Ministries International in order to help fund this ongoing work.
Rebecca longs to use her gifts and talents to bring God glory no matter where she is. In Uganda, Rebecca is known for her gift and ability to speak, sing, and lead worship in the heart language of the people, Luganda. In January and February of 2009, a life long dream came true when she was able to record a CD of worship, singing with African children in their native language of Luganda! Her Lugandan music has been heard on radio and even television through her African music videos. When Stateside, Rebecca travels singing and speaking about the work in Uganda in churches, cafes, and Christian festivals. She just released her debut album recorded in Nashville, TN, which consists of all-original contemporary ambient rock worship songs and other worship styles. She hopes her music will lead listeners into deep love encounters with God and then be inspired to give that love away. She hopes for an increased platform for her music career to fuel and inspire a movement of compassion among the western church to care for children in need, widows, and the poor. My Father’s House is funded through Rebecca’s music, through a small business partnered with Ugandan widows selling their handmade jewelry and accessories, and through the generosity of Christian individuals and churches!
