In this age of bland, cookie-cutter artists with manufactured sounds and store-bought personas, few artists are worth a listen. Redd Velvet is one of those few! On a mission to restore Soul/R&B to the ‘Gold Standard’ set by such artists as Al Green, Aretha Franklin, O.V. Wright, Candy Staton and others, Redd Velvet wrote this music. She delivers each song with the authority of a woman who has “been there and done that”. Just when you thought there was no real music being made by real singers and musicians, WOMANHOOD 101 is confirmation that all is not lost. Listen to the music. Learn the lessons!

Album Notes

From Memphis....Seeing Redd
“Womanhood 101" the genre twisting debut album of singer/songwriter Redd Velvet is finally available!

"We couldn't put her in a category the way you can with most singers!" . Redd is like a chameleon crossing genres and blending them at her will. Her articulations of jazz are fluid with style and depth reminiscent of the divas that influenced her. She colors R&B ballads with the spectrum of emotions in her soulful voice. Even when covering a popular tune her vocal signature distinguishes her as more than just another singer. Redd belts the blues like its her birthright enticing enthusiasts from America to Australia as illustrated by world-renowned blues guitarist's Geoff Atchison's demand to take her "down under" to do justice to the genre. When she sings the self-penned gospel infused foot stomper "How Long", you just know that her church roots are indisputable.

However, you will not know whether to shout or dance! So we asked Redd herself who replied, "Do both if you want to. I did"

All of this from the daughter of a Baptist preacher who has no idea what his little girl has been up to until now!
