ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Rhonda Apple and Dale Britt have worked together as a duo since 1998 in primarily Ocean City, Maryland. This is their sixth recording together. Half of the tunes are their choice favorites. Half were requested. The amazing drummer Alan Dale and hugely talented bassist Tom Baldwin join in the fun on mostly Old Standards and two of Dale's original tunes. Drawing on his listening prowess Dale Britt has developed his own, mature style that is rememiscent of Bill Evan, Hampton Hawes, Andre Previn and Oscar Peterson. It is possible to hear snippets of each in the same improvisation. The voice of Rhonda Apple has been compared to Linda Eder, Barbra Streisand, Jane Monheit and Diana Krall with it's crystal clear delivery and expressive style. She becomes the song, the emotions, the lyrics with every fiber of her being. If you like traditional jazz, crooners and easy listening, you'll love this CD.

Because this is really music!
I've had the pleasure of listening to the music of Apple and Britt for several years now. I first met Rhonda many years ago when she was singing in a cover band in Florida. I was blown away by the sheer power of her voice. There was no style of music that she could not do justice to. Her paring with Dale Britt is a musical match made in heaven. I love the music of yesterday...when it was music. Beautiful melodies and lyrics that make you feel... they bring this back to you. I just spent this weekend listening to their latest CD, "Playin' in the Alley" and it was sheer pleasure... a great blend of jazzy, bluesy covers of so many wonderful songs. How suprised I was to here them include a country song "Keeper of the Stars", co-written by Karen Staley (Of Faith Hills original road band). This rendition was so moving, I had to stop what I was doing and the emotion it brought to me.... judge for yourself. I hope you enjoy this CD as much as I do.
