Album Notes

This is by no means my first composition. At the age of three I sat at the piano and counted out the positions of the notes to write a piece for the orchestra. Believe me it was not very good, but I wanted to write music. Writing this music for my grandfather’s paintings of the ocean and rocks in Monhegan Maine was for me a more emotional experience than expected. Like my grandfather Alfred E. Lang, we both had technical degrees, his was in architecture, while mine is in electronics, but we both decided to relax by creating in the arts. His paintings always surrounded me and my belief was that his seascapes captured the beauty of the Maine shoreline better than anyone even after visiting many art museums and galleries, as well as talking to the artists that paint on the island these days. Almost all of his masterpieces were sold while growing up, so two of the compositions in Volume One had to be done by memory. For this CD I gathered all of his remaining oils and placed them in sight and picked out one to write next. It was also a growing experience for me, finally realizing the breadth of his work. More than ever before I want my listeners to enjoy my music. To capture the eternal ocean experience and pass that on to anyone who loves art and the ocean has been very uplifting, after all he was my grandfather. We studied the ocean together for a while even after his death. I hope that between the two of us you will love the ocean more than ever before. Please enjoy.
