Album Notes

Roadside Alibi's debut album, "Hurray for Humans", is the brainchild of musicians Josh Kutchai (singer/pianist/songwriter) and Ray Ippolito (composer/guitarist/percussionist/engineer/producer). The duo has a penchant for fusing seemingly disparate styles into a sound that is both unique and accessible. Roadside Alibi's lyrics are powerful, and often touch on political issues as well as deeply personal spiritual themes. Kutchai's vocals can range from a heartbreaking whisper to an outraged growl, and Ippolito's production always supports Kutchai's songs in a refreshing manner that never overwhelms, but adds just enough spice to keep the listener engaged no matter what aspect of the performance he or she might be focused on. The band is rounded out by an extremely talented and internationally renowned group of musicians, including drummer Jon Shiffman (Steel Train), bassist John Ross, guitarist Bruce Gatewood (Deodato), and saxophonist Dan Willis (Michael Brecker, Rob Thomas, Wynton Marsalis). The album also features some star-studded guests who play a variety of instruments including Cellist Dave Eggar (Coldplay, Beyonce, Evanescence), a very acclaimed horn section (Levon Helm, Sting, Tito Puente), and Tabla player Muthu Kumar (Bill Laswell). With its melange of musical influences, Roadside Alibi has delivered a powerful fusion of musicality, poetry and passion that skillfully intertwines the best of classic, contemporary, electronic, and ethnic genres of music.
