Album Notes

Stupid Cupid: The Girl Group Era began in the beauriful venues of the New Territories in Hong Kong (2006). Under the initial title, "Songs and Dances of the 50's and 60's, it made its way to London's West End (Jermyn Street Theatre) and Covent Garden (Octave Jazz Club) in 2008. Rosemary George was accompanied by wizard Hong Kong pianist Jason Cheng and the award winning John Turville Trio respectively. In New York, it was re-named "A Rock'N roll Revue" under the musical direction of the late great Joseph Diamond. The venue was John Zorn's The Stone. It made it way to Lang Hall in May 2009 to a packed audience and the CD Release show happened at the Black Box Theater in Harlem (November 2009) under the sponsorship of Loft Arts Productions. The next stop was the beautiful Hudson River Museum.

This has been a 6 year project for me, as I grew up listening to and singing with these pre-revolutionary girl groups and solo artists. Connie Francis, Brenda Lee, Barbara Lewis, Lesley Gore - all had something direct and simple to say about love. Coming out of a time where mostly male groups were singing up a storm, these ladies sang with so much tknow how with each one unique in sound and style. Many of them are still singing today!

Kelvyn "Kelvynator" Bell, my wonderful Blues guitar player has brought an enormous Blues feeling to these "cover songs" and keyboard player roger Anderson has taken this show to another level - having played with all the famed retro groups, he was a welcome guest. As always, it is difficult to sing covers especially since everyone has come to identify these songs with the original singers. I felt that I had to do something "different" - a touch of blues, swing, ragtime, faster tempo, slower tempo, etc. I do know one thing, everywhere I take this show, it is extremely well-received. Audiences sing along, dance, bob up and down, smile and have a lot of fun! Of course, the entire show is nearly two hours in length. The CD merely highlight some of it.

International singer Rosemary George has maintained a career in a variety of genres including classical, musical theatre, jazz and pop. some venues include: Avery Fisher Hall (Lincoln Center), Carnegie Recital Hall, Carnegie Hall, London's Barbican Centre, Theatre Museum , Jermyn Street Theatre, Octave Jazz Club as well as Festivals including Caramoor, Beethoven, New Hampshire, Waterloo, Edinburgh and Jerash in Jordan.

Stupid Cupid:the girl group era has been invited to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe (CVenues) in august 2012.

I have also launched a new show entitled: "Torch 'n Blues" which was presented in New York's TheaterLab on June 5. The stellar line i up ncludes reed daddy JD Parran, Kelvyn Bell, Seth Okrend (guitars), Marcus Dargan (vocals) and poet Golda Solomon. Loft Arts Productions will present this show at the beautiful Dwyer Cultural Center in Harlem on November 5 from 2-4. It is part of the prestigious "Uptown Tea Series." (For advance tickets please visit Smarttix.) Torch 'n Blues will also come to the B'Hai Center in New York (April date tba). this is a beautiful 150 seat theater situated on the lower East Side. I will keep you posted.

If you've ever heard the amazing Rosemary George in concert, then the best praise I can offer is that it's just like being able to listen to a Rosemary George concert any time you want. If you haven't heard her before, it will be clear to you that her love for the music from what she has officially coined "The Girl Group Era" comes shining through in every note. With class and style, Rosemary is a time machine, transporting the listener back to a simpler time. You can't help but feel good after hearing her in her element!!

When Ms. George's voice first hits you, it's as if you are transported to another dimension. Her voice sounds rapturous and filled with lasting love. Every time she sings a song, one can hear timeless elegance and strength. I adore Lipstick On Your Collar especially. I am happy to own such an outstanding album.

An Eclectic Mix... WIth A Delightful Twist

With a very eclectic mix of musicians on this cd (Avant-Garde saxophonist J D Parran, blues guitarist Kelvyn Bell, legendary pianist Roger Anderson, and of course Rosemary George) makes for some very interesting arrangements of popular tunes I've always loved. Pop, jazz, blues, ballads, and standards all seamlessly woven onto one cd with a delightful twist. My personal favorites include: Baby I'm Yours, Break it to Me Gently, and Lipstick on Your Collar
