Russell has been preaching since 1996 starting out holding revivals across Oklahoma, as well as Arkansas, Alabama, and New Mexico. The ministry added to the evangelism in 2000 by taking the pastorate in Wewoka, OK. Evangelism is still at the heart of Russell’s ministry whether preaching in Wewoka where he pastors, or in revival and camp meetings across the country.

Music has always been a passion for Russell as he has been playing since the late 80’s. After surrendering his life to Christ in March of 1996, his music turned toward God alone. He has never lost the country/blues feel of his younger days, but now only sings for our Lord Jesus Christ. He has discovered a great variety of people hungry for clean, family, Christian Country style music. That is exactly where he took his newest project, “Muddy Water.”

Russell was one of the founding members and performers in the Hilltop Gospel Band for over 5 years. This group saw many souls saved and encouraged through this same style of music. Russell still plays and sings at Hilltop weekly with former band member and now Music Minister Kevin Thetford, together with some new additions to the group, the music at Hilltop Church is as strong as ever.

Pastoring is certainly the key point of ministry, but Russell recently felt the draw back toward the starting point of his ministry. He decided to record and travel with a new solo project. This has allowed him to step back into evangelism with a new strength and the results are a true blessing of God. With the music of Russell and his wife Michelle, along with a powerful preaching style many are familiar with, Russell is seeing churches reignited and souls coming to Jesus. Russell joined CCMNow in 2009 and states that the affiliation has him, “Enjoying my music now more than ever.”
