Album Notes

This CD was produced for WorldCon (Anticipation Montréal) 2009, and intended as a companion disc to Firebrand. Since we have run out of copies of Solitary Dancer and Eclectic I, we have chosen our favorite tracks from both and supplemented them with new studio recordings.

Hearthfire is our most recent piece, a Viking fable intended as the opening track of Sundown. Those familiar with our other Viking pieces the leitmotifs of certain gods. Sundown is an ongoing project, a Norse mythological song cycle centering around the death of the sun god Baldur. We hope Sundown will be finished in 2010/2011. This disc contains all four completed Norse pieces: Hearthfire; the title track, Sundown, which depicts Baldur's murder; My Brother, My Enemy, a duet for Odin and Loki; and The Futhark Song, which teaches the Norse runic alphabet.

Sassafrass originated at Bryn Mawr College, but the current incarnation gathered in the Boston area and has been performing in the east coast sci-fi and filk circuit. This CD includes recordings from every incarnation of Sassafrass. As of summer '09; a number of our members have dispersed to different states, so we expect to be performing in smaller groups but in a wider range of locations in future.
