Album Notes

Although today the mandolin-harp combination is rarely heard, the combination of instrumens can be traced back to nineteenth and eighteenth century Italy, and perhaps back to the sixteenth century. Our mandolin-harp combination was formed in 1995, and we have performed together at a variety of venues throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
Coming together on a whim, we discovered that the two instruments compliment each other nicely. In some pieces, the mandolin's steel strings and sustaining quality of the tremolo - the technique of moving the plectrum rapidly back and forth across the mandolin's pairs of strings - make a clear tonal distinction from the harp. In other pieces, we blend the two instruments in close harmonies, as in operatic duets.

I looked for a mandolin version of serenata for my mum and this was the only one. It reminded her old days and she was so happy. Thank you CD baby for an efficient service and funny message!

Love the mandolin? love this cd!
author: michelle Dublin, Ireland
I made the "mistake" of buying my husband a mandoilin for Christmas, he is a fine guitarist, and ever since he has been obsessed! He's been playing lots of Irish traditional music, which is great for a party, but as baby number 3 is on the way, jigs and reels at midnight were becoming something of a sore point in our house. Hence I wanted him to learn some more relaxing tunes, more soothing and romantic, like the songs on the Captain Corelli soundtrack! Viola! This Cd has not been taken out of our stereo since it arrived. I love track 5 the best, but I just keep 'Serenade' on repeat all day. It is especially wonderful at dinner time when things are most stressful here. I have been telling all my friends about it. The harp really blends beautifully with the mandolin and reminds us a little of Irish traditional music too, so its an all round winner! Every now and then it sounds vaguely Elizabethan and I am transported to a banquet in Stratford Upon Avon, with Will Shakespeare, fine company you'll admit. We haven't had the opportunity to try it out at a dinner party, but it'll be my first choice as soon as we're entertaining again. Buy this cd if you love melodic, tuneful music that transports you to another world with its simplistic, international flavours and pristine production. You wont be sorry!
