The word "Sangreäl" is derived from medieval French and is usually translated as "Holy Grail" in English. Appropriately, the album Sangreäl is a collection of songs which chronicle the contemplation of one of the great mysteries - the search for meaning in a meaningless world. Our protagonist sets out to discover a path to emotional and intellectual fulfillment. Along the way, he examines the traditional religious and supernaturalist solutions, only to find them lacking. He eventually creates his own naturalistic philosophy and finds himself in a position akin to the one in which he started. The "missing pieces" will likely always be missing in the absolute sense, but he no longer needs to possess the absolute answers to be content.
Musically, Sangreäl draws on heavy metal and progressive rock traditions, combining seven-string guitar and synths in shifting, jazz-inspired rhythms.
