Album Notes

Songwriter Sleepy Joe Lee's debut cd, "Free Air", displays the myriad musical sensibilities that he brings to the table. From a chugging blues/rock to a mountain air. From searing rock to retro R&B. From rockin' boogie to straight-up blues, with a rockin' arrangement of a Queen Ida zydeco tune to boot. A uniquely American patchwork of musical styles.

"Free Air" follows the indie release "Time For a New Dance Floor" by Ray and the Detonators, which features eight Sleepy Joe Lee tunes. In the neo-rockabilly tradition Sleepy Joe Lee's writing blurs the lines between musical genres, in a style that is all his own. Backed by an in-the-pocket group of great musicians, Sleepy Joe Lee delivers his tunes with an honesty and immediacy that only a songwriter can bring to his work.
