Album Notes

The Sound of Speed creates music borne of alternative Britain with the flair, attack, and hooks of the future. Intelligent, driving, melancholy... immerse yourself and fall in love.

‘Light’ – their first full length CD – is a testament to the band’s talents and diverse musical influences. The intriguing mix of styles on the album ranges from the synth-pop of ‘PostPunk’ and ‘The Slip’ to the more tempered and thoughtful ‘Your Way’ and heavy riffs of ‘Robotique’. Listen and you’ll feel like you’re on the inside looking out.

PostPunk: A driving wall of sound that is the life and story of a reformed punk after her heyday as she pines for what might have been... It’s New Order meets Placebo.

Day of a Young Man: The album accelerates with the robotic drums and haunting backing vocals of aNdi pUzL, and recalls the irony of time passing so slowly when you’re young but flying by as you age.

The Waiting: Wanting something you shouldn’t want has consequences. The guilt of acting on that desire fuels the conflict of this track, contrasted by a powerfully lifting chorus. Hooks abound.

Robotique: Revenge is a dish best served cold - punctuated with swaggering fuzz bass, lilting harmonies, and an unexpectedly beautiful chorus documenting the final seconds in the life of a machine.

The Slip: Watch out for your doppelganger. Features the lyrics “If I could taste the rush... that makes Pandora blush” enveloped by piano-tinged strings and waves of guitar.

Your Way: The band’s synth-laden mid-tempo opus to releasing yourself to another. The Verve would be jealous.

Kensington: Blur meets The Smiths in a jangly homage to the heart of Victorian London and the spirit of Morrissey, caught on a bright sunny day.

Celebrity: Infatuation doesn’t let the listener take a breath in this stomping, syncopated, guitar-driven pop masterpiece.
