Album Notes

The Sparkleberries play the sort of tightly crafted pop rock and roots rock tunes that used to suit jukeboxes and AM radio, but there's too much of the Velvet Underground and too little of the Beach Boys in frontman Ken Kleinfeld's delivery for the band to be other than alt-rock. "Skylight Exchange" introduces the band; most of the tunes feature some of Chapel Hill's finest power-pop musicians: Chris Stamey (the dB's) on rhythm & lead guitar, Jeff Crawford (Max Indian) on bass, and Logan Matheny (Roman Candle) on drums. It's mostly upbeat rock, simple and direct lyrics, with an air of amused reflection, propelled by catchy, rootsy musicianship.
