BIOGRAPHY:
Stephen Funk Pearson had a musical childhood thanks to his parents Kathleen Funk Pearson, pianist, organist and choir director and Donald M. Pearson, Professor of Music, organist, harpsichordist and choir director.
He graduated from Vassar College with a double major in philosophy and music and received his Master's Degree in performance and composition from Hunter College winning the Dr. Benno E. Lee award "for outstanding excellence". He attended the Aspen Music School, and as the recipient of a Maguire Fellowship spent 2 years of study in Europe where he also attended the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, Italy. He studied guitar with Frederick Hand, Alice Artzt, David Russell, John Mills, Jose Tomas and Oscar Ghiglia.
In composition he studied with Robert Middleton, Richard Wilson. Lenox Berkeley, and Annea Lockwood. He served as artist-in-residence in North Carolina, concertized widely in Europe and America and joined or formed many folk, jazz and rock bands for which he also wrote music. His recordings include “Hudson River Debut” (GSP Recordings), “Live in Concert, London” (Kyra-Clio Music), and “Classical Guitar and Beyond” (Homespun Tapes). His compositions are published by Theodore Presser, Guitar Solo Publications, Doberman-Yppan, and KYRA Music.
