mike lanigan (salty)
vocals, harp, keys, guitar
Mike Lanigan (AKA Salty) formed Swingin Harpoon Blues Band in 2007, after being everyone else's ' HARP PLAYER '.
Literally wearing out a 'Swingerhead (Michael Andrew) ' CD over a period of about 12 years, Salty finally acted on his swing interests and put Swingin Harpoon Blues Band together
(Salty) was born in Tarpon Springs Fl., and always ‘tinkered' with musical instruments. Salty started blowing harp at 14, learning his licks from two main sources....J. Geils Band , and The Ozark Mountain Daredevils. The two contrasting styles of music influenced Salty's harmonica style.
Salty's hard blowing licks and unique timing provide a unique harmonica flavor, enjoyed by all.
Other influences come from Pat Ramsey, William Clarke, Fingers Taylor, Johnny Winter, Michael Andrew, Lee Oskar, and many other artists over the years.
Salty has opened or performed with such artists as Pat Ramsey, Cyde Ramsey, Jason Ricci, Bill ‘The Sauce Boss’ Wharton, J B ' s Zydeco Zoo, Sir Charles Atkins, Pat Buchanon, Herbie Mann, Spyro Gyra, Georgia Satellites, Atlanta Rhythym Section, Grace Slick & Starship, Julian Kasper, Billy Dean, Terry Clark, Tom Gribbon, T.C. Carr, Mark Chesnutt, Tracy Lawrence, Confederate Railroad, Billy Dean, Cathy Cotton, Tracy Byrd, Joe Nichols, Lee Ann Womack, Mark Collie, Jeanie Sealy, Janie Fricke and many more.
Over the years, Salty has been a member of The Summer Brothers, Harpo, Brad Willis & The Southern Stars, Florida Band, Lost Companion Band, Southern Satisfaction, Barry Fish Band, Allie & The Allie Cats, Midnight Rain, The Saltwater Cowboy Band, Roadhouse, and is the founder and front man for Swingin Harpoon Blues Band.
Swingin Harpoon Blues Band is a concept that Salty has envisioned for many years. Take the big sound of a swing big band and arrange blues harp into the mix with solid blues, and you have Swingin Harpoon Blues Band. Swingin Harpoon Blues Band has been booking regionally and in legendary venues such as Bradfordville Blues Club & Bullwinkles (Tallahassee Fl), The Melting Point (Athens GA), Pineapple Willies (Panama City Beach Fl), and many others. The reception from the crowds have been overwhelming. Swingin Harpoon Blues Band will be blowing near you soon.
American Without Prefix (2007 Indie), Swingin Harpoon Blues Band debut CD, met great critical reviews, and Swingin Harpoon Blues Band next CD (2009) is sure to have some swinging blues.
Salty has the passion, energy and experience for a memorable funky blues swing show.
Salty also performs as a solo act, 'The Saltwater Cowboy', and is well know in the North Florida Areas.
Salty blows on Hohner harps, using an Astatic Mic through a 1950 Danelectric or a 1965 Univox
Kevan received his first Fender Stratocaster for his 13th birthday. Within a year and a half Kevan also had a bass guitar and a drum set. The day he bought a bass he switched from guitar to bass. He met a drummer and formed with him Zodiac Sundae, a classic rock/"egyptian grunge" band, and later Bob's Car Wash, a punk rock and at one point ska group.
Kevan's random musical endeavours, combined with his powerful dream of becoming a pro musician landed him a spot for classical piano at the Florida State University College of Music in Tallahassee. Performing with blues icon Charles Atkins during his time as a bassist in the FSU Blues Ensemble, Kevan's love for blues developed. Armed with his Bachelor of Arts in Music, Kevan is road worthy and provides Swingin Harpoon Blues Band with a solid bottom rythym.
James started playing drums early in childhood and began performing professionally at the age of 14. Hailing from Texas, James grew up with rock, blues and Texas swing and spent the next 10 years on the Dallas/Ft.Worth and Austin music circuit while performing with the Pony Express, Texas Mariah and Bootlegg to name a few.
James changed direction and joined the U.S. Army as a Combat Medic and was fortunate to play with musicians from all over the states and Germany, including members of the 3rd Infantry Division Band. James'band in Germany, Rags, made a CD that was well received throughout the European market. Rags also had the privilege of winning the USO European Battle of the Bands. Since James exit from the military, he has traveled with various bands and accomplished musicians performing live and studio recording, most recently in New York. Since settling in Tallahassee, James was searching for a band with something different to offer....

"I would put Brad onstage with anyone...a monster guitarist with sweetness"....Salty
Brad Foutch was born in Kentucky, eventually settling down in Tallahassee, FL., to pursue a college degree and foster a music career. Coming from a musically inclined family, it was only natural that Brad followed in the footsteps of his older brother and became a performing musician. Brad is a gifted guitarist with 'Stevie Ray' licks, and Eric Capton feel. Brad's performances are beyond his years.
His personal take on guitar is to drive "tone" to the edge, either making eyes water or ears bleed. Nearly four years after picking up the guitar for the first time, Brad has still yet to put it down. "Time to invest in some earplugs!"
vocals, acoustic guitar, keyboard
