A Nicely Done One Man Show

This CD is consistently good in the sense that the performance and production of every song is done well. There is no track I dislike -- and many I like a lot -- but there are a couple that I'm not all that crazy about. I guess that's to be expected when a CD is described as eclectic. Riggs does a variety of things well but I like him best when he's in his Neil Young mode. "I Still Believe In You" is a good example of that but an even better one is "Lost In The Hardwoods" which appears twice. In the first, tasteful harmonica and guitar work carry the often haunting voice nicely. In the second, an instrumental version, Riggs puts Bob Bentle's violin up front to good effect. It's one of the few tracks where someone other than Riggs even appears. Riggs wrote, sang, recorded, and produced everything as well as playing almost all of the instruments Those tracks I'm not so fond of include the title track and the kind of psychedelic kind of heavy metal "Shadow Land". They're good tunes and they're well executed but they're just not my cup of tea. Other might really like them.
