Album Notes

Longtime music insider, Philip Vaughan assumed production duties on the CD. Vaughan has an extensive pedigree that includes a stint with the legendary "Big Twist and the Mellow Fellows" as
well as Ray Charles and BB King. Vaughan's R & B credentials come shining through on gems like the title track "Me and Mrs. Jones" as well as a poignant Lionel Richie penned tune, "Good Bye."

But, what’s more of a revelation is the way that Ocean’s voice wraps around each song and draws the listener in. Whether it's the silky smooth phrasing on the freshness of a new love in “She” or gruffly lamenting a lost one in "Be Honest,", Ocean is well-suited to the storytelling nature of this CD which includes offerings from the likes of Robbie Robertson, Van Morrison and other legendary songwriters.

Accompanying Ocean are some of Chicago’s finest studio musicians and vocalists including jazz great, Maurice Spiccia. Joyce “Peaches” Faison provides sweet harmony on the old "Big Twist: chestnut “I Want Your Love” while Angel Spiccia’s soaring vocals blend well with Ocean’s on the song "If" made famous by Bread in the early seventies. While Ocean's voice works well with his talented female sidekicks, he also stands out on as a solo act on songs like the haunting “Out of the Blue” which was written by Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Robbie Robertson.

With well-written ballads and soulful melodies in such short supply these days, the “Me and Mrs. Jones” CD is sure to find a place in the heart ( and playlists) of romantics everywhere. As Ocean sings in "Someone Like You" he's been "marching to the beat of a different drum" but "the best is yet to come." These lyrics could prove to be prophetic as Tony Ocean successfully marches to an exciting new phase in his 30-year musical career.

Ocean hit a home run with Me and Mrs Jones! His vocal and energy makes this hit song a hit again. Where did his R&B roots come from with that I want your love, and the other singer Joyce Fasion makes me want to see this artist live. The Robbie Robertson song Out of the Blue is out of this world.... I want to hear more!

Tony Ocean doles out skill and passion with his new CD, "Me and Mrs. Jones." As you could imagine, his cover of the Billy Paul classic is well done and worthy of being a title track. This album stays nothing but smooth throughout, but still holds some edge and emotion with Ocean's strong vocals. "Someone Like You" has all the elements this album is about: passion, beautiful piano, and catchy melodies. Another gem is the last track, "Be Honest," a duet with a female singer. Tony Ocean’s fine CD, "Me and Mrs. Jones," is easy listening anyone can enjoy.
