"Stay Cool In The Upper Peninsula" was originally inspired by Steve's family vacation to the subject part of Michigan. By all accounts, they had a great time - but wondered how a conversation might go if a friend with xenophobic tendencies had warned Steve to be careful and to be on the lookout for treachery on his trip.
Why Reggae? Why not?! Just another genre to cross off the list.
The title was chosen to complete the irony. It's what they imagine an ad campaign for the area might be called, and how it might accidentally end up in the running as a candidate for its theme song; somewhat like New Jersey's brief consideration for Bruce Springsteen's "Born To Run" as the "unofficial theme song for" New Jersey youth, before they read the lyrics.
