Album Notes

This is my freshman effort, and I am actually very proud of it considering the time it took. I have now been through it and am ready for someone to sponsor me for the next time.

The Band: Ken Lovern – Piano and Hammond Organ. Terry Swope – Guitar. James Albright – Bass. Sam Platt – Drums, Percussions. Guest appearance of Kyle Dahlquist on Accordion on the “Hideaway” track.

“6 AM” actually started off as a noodling project with a wonderful guitarist (I should say instrumentalist- he is crazy talented) Brad Dungca.

"For You, Oh Love" and "For You My Love" are actually the same song, except that the second is a ballad with a more AABA structure rather than the shorter AA. A great suggestion made by another great guitarist, Max Berry. This was a nice little experiment for me. “For You My Love” Ken Lovern was on had to help with the arrangement as well as the performance.

“Check Please” and “On the Other Hand” are just fun songs.

“Time Just Slipped” was actually a ballad when I wrote it and recorded a demo of it. Another exercise though- I wanted to change the style of this song for this cd.

“Something With Someone” – even my sad songs have hope.

“Hurry” – Though I had that written, it ended up being a collaborative effort with the band to arrange. Lots of fun…

“Too Late” – A lounge/soul fusion.

“He Moves Me” – An old song I wrote that I found again and was glad to re-visit.

"Hideaway" – very different from the others, and yet I felt it was a good way to end the cd. I even have the drummer (Sam) adding some background vocals on it towards the end.

I really am glad I did this project. I had a great group of instrumentalists to work with! It’s pretty much face value- what you hear is what you get. No clever innuendos or hidden agendas- just good music I like to think. It was a learning experience, and as I listen to it (being my own critic of course) I actually am glad to finally share this. Hope it gives someone else a little positive power in their day!
