Album Notes
Vortex Tribe is a groundbreaking synthesis of worldbeat, acid jazz, and funk. Ethereal flute lines float over an intricate,
relentless groove that recalls the glory days of fun. Masterful percussion from around the world mix with soaring guitar lines and synthesized layers in a haunting blend, as powerhouse drumming pushes the form between tightly arranged sections and open improvisation. With detours into reggae, latin, and classical filmscore, prepare to be taken into a timeless space--one ever-shifting between memories past and the furthest reaches of the imagination.

The band includes classically trained flutist, Deborah Yates with years of experience on an international level. Jon Mulvey on guitar - a Joe Satriani protege and one Joe calls 'a peer'.

Sizzles & Sparkles
This incredible set sizzles & sparkles! The opening track "In a Box" is a great jazz piece with Deborah Yates' flute giving the essential flavor to the band, updated from Paul Horn's or Tim Weisberg's jazz/pop crossover albums from the 70s. The Tribe does a super job on Burt Bacharach's "Look of Love," with enough of that stunning melody filtering through with Arabic rhythms to create a magnificent track. My favorite may be "No Ordinary Love" which burns the speakers for six minutes with a short spoken spiritual interlude about two-thirds through the track. Lalo Schifrin's "Mission Impossible" also stands out. This is a superb release! Bravo!
