(About MP3 downloads at CD Baby)

It's a synth-rock revolution.

notes

From Portland Oregon. Band formed by ex Dandy Warhol Eric Hedford on keys and vocals, Scott Fox on guitar (Satan's Pilgrims, Crackerbash), Paulie Pulvirenti playing drums (Elliott Smith), and Juliette Jones on bass.

CD Baby Review:

"Revisiting the glory days of synth-rock, adding post-punk influences, and then ensuring complete and total satisfaction with a sugar gloss, here is sticky, sweet rock that is undeniably catchy. It will make indie-rockers swoon and fans of the synth quickly latch on. Creating a wall of melody with their synth-drum-bass-guitar set-up, this quartet creates songs that would jump out at you even if they were just instrumentals. But, with the addition of the smooth, crystal clear lead vocals and spot-on backing vocals, as well as smart, well-written lyrics, the songs are even that much stronger. Sing along, dance, or bop your head to these glowing, brightly powered songs that exemplify how a rock band can sugar coat it and make it enjoyable for everyone without losing anything."

  • Unique, Different, Awesome

Absolutely fantastic. The music has such a fun, laid back tone. It really flows and the honestly, the songs just don't get old and I've been listening to these songs for like a year.

  • Very 80s and better
    author: Greg

I am into this album alot and I enjoy the similarities with yes, Gary Numan, Psychedic Furs etc. Alot of people are reinventing the wheel it seems except this time around they are doing it better and this band is no exception like Vanity Beach, Dada Pogrom, Randy Twigg, Peaches, The Hives and so on. Of course all of this is a matter of opinion but whatever, I like this cd.

  • Taking Me Back..
    author: Kevin

This CD takes me back to when I used to sit in front of tube waiting for a video from The Fixx or The Psychedelic Furs to come on MTV. Love this CD, but....I want more!! 5 songs isn't enough!!!

  • i think this is very great and that it is cool

  • Brilliant

I heard about this band when I bought the Dig! documentary DVD and it showed them playing live....and in just hearing them..I had to hear more. The CD arrived today and it's brilliant! Buy it...I guarentee you won't be disappointed.

  • I took a chance...and it paid off

I heard just snippets of Telephone from the DIG! DVD a few weeks back. Being a huge fan of the Dandy Warhols, I liked what little I heard and immediately went looking for the CD. I have to say that I'm pleasantly surprised by this EP. It's a cool combination of 80's bands like Gary Numan and The Cars, with a bit of Velvet Underground drone, like so much of the Dandy's themselves. Consider me a fan. - Jason

Wow, what a great cd. Drop whatever it is that you're doing and buy this cd!!!

  • This CD rocks as good as the Dandys
    author: Keith

This CD consists of five songs that you need to own. Thay are so good that the Dandy Warhols should be ashamed of firing their visionary drummer, i.e. the band's lead singer. So get Telephone's EP. You WILL love it!

  • Thumping Bass, Electric Synths, Haunting Vocals, No Doze Mints
    author: Eric D!

This is a great E.P., just as it is so aptly titled. The bass is real thick and beats on your ear drums. The guitar work ranges from gritty to stunningly bright in feel. The synths take over the show providing the songs with some great harmony lines. A higher pitched contrasting sound to compliment the low bass, guitar, and drums. The vocals are well done and layered perfectly. A really great disk to own, I recommend. Portland is the next big city... watch out.

I love Telephone's EP! I have been a fan of theirs since I first heard their tracks on the Northwest Shoegazer's Ball CDs "In A Different Place" and "Fuzzy Ball." They have a driving 80s sound and David Bowie influences. Infectious!

  • Pick it up!
    author: Kent Johnson

Took the plunge and bought this sweet cd without even hearing any traxx! Yummy synth-driven indie-rock, makes you wanna dance while suckin on a chuppa! Been listening to it on loop! I'm obsessed~!

  • Fantastic addictive sugar coated syth power pop!!!
    author: Andrea Lee

I haven't taken this CD out of my CD player since receiving it from CD Baby, total addictive, catchy tunes. Great Lyrics, great sound. Elements of Kraftwork, but darker in places. Also can hear elements of Placebo and the Foo Fighters wihin a couple of the tracks. Really want to hear more from this band, and hopefully won't have to wait long.

  • Awesome Electronic Fun
    author: M in OZ

This is a great, fun and rockin' EP!! "Sugar Coated" and "Rock Club" should be palying round the clock on MTV/VH1!! Do yourself a favor and check these guys out

  • Outstanding
    author: Jason

My curiosity was piqued when I read that the band was from Portland and that it contained a former member of the Dandy Warhols. This is just pure vintage 80's New Wave vibe. I had this EP in my car stereo while being lost at night in San Jose for almost 2 hours. I never got sick of it! In my opinion, this is even better than the Dandy Warhols. This is the most excited I've been about a band in quite some time. I hope these guys stick around awhile.

  • Punkish ,atmospheric,rebelious in spirit

A great work to be appreciated.I believe we will all be hearing more of this style of music in the next few years.

  • New wave meets power pop and it thrills!
    author: Los Angeles Press

This is new wave meets power pop and it rocks. We Are Telephone, out of Portland, Oregon, has made some serious moves with a great first release. Each song is so good that it's edible. I can't wait for a full length LP.

  • Don't Hang Up The Phone
    author: Evan Willingham

If it were not for the bonus material on the DIG DVD I would still be in the dark about this band. It's big on synth, yes but it works. Every tune has a great hook and though most would classify this as Neo New Wave (OK it is!) you can easily hear pop and rock throughout the disc. This guy can sing, he's been outfitted with a keen sense of melody. Listen to it anytime, no need to be in a particular mood. Telephone delivers the goods on this one. That's the word out of Michigan.

  • telephone. a less frightening version of dandy warhols.
    author: mr. larson

WeAreTelephone are practically neighbors of mine - I've played muzak with mr. pulvirenti, i've listened to things scott's done for years, i know ms. jones... and i am the dandy warhols` biggest fan. By this, i mean i weigh at least 800 pounds. Anyway, Mr. Hedford has outdone himself. This is pop bliss, and I, for one, am counting the seconds until their next release. If it were within my power, i would nominate 'em for greatest band in the world. But then what would Fleetwood Mac do for a living?
