This song was sort of an accidental piece that I stumbled upon writing whilst trying out a new gadget, a live-looping pedal called the Boss RC-50. It began with a simple riff that can be heard at the start of the song, and as I progressed, the song seemed to flow out of me as though it was merely waiting to be composed. It flowed out of me like a river of melody and before I knew it, the song was completed.
Probably one of my most intuitive pieces to date, Between Here And Then evokes a feeling of wistfulness and yet it is tinged with a hopeful glow that bursts into bloom in the final bass solo.
The most unique aspect of this song is that it is fully recorded on just the bass guitar which was tweaked to sound like a drum, guitar or string section. A violin bow is also used to play on the electric bass strings, and fed to a delay drenched effect unit to create the sounds of a string section.
