Album Notes

To take a foothold the tradition to built a new music

A powerful rythmic, inspired by urban grooves, takes along melody lyrism in an original and current universe, the universe of Zetlab.

The recording of " K-rouge " ( 3 stars Jazzman N° 99 ) is the starting point of a very strong musical friendship between 5 musicians: Julien Mercier ( trumpet and compositions ),
Mathieu Lasserre ( Alto and soprano saxophones ), Mehdi Chaib ( Saxophone tenor ), Emmanuel Heyner ( Guitars ) and Stéphane Edouard ( drums and percussions ).
Julien Mercier proposes to join them together again in this particular project.

It should be noticed that Rafael Koerner has replaced Stéphane Edouard and that Thomas
D' Arbigny has joined the project since september 2004 to the Electric Bass.

Zetlab is a band with variable geometry because the basic quintet is enriched, with the liking of the meetings, of valuable guests, for example the Da Brains (rappers from Dakar, Senegal), Ricardo Garatea (afro-cuban percussions), Jawed el Garouj (songs and gembri Gnawa), Benjamin Moussay (piano and rhodes).
From different horizons, these musicians, make of Zetlab a pluriethnic collective which propose on scene severals facets of the same music.
Zetlab develops in this way a resolutely modern musical unit.
